Fatherly Advice: The Key to Our Professional Success

Fatherly Advice: The Key to Our Professional Success

On Father's Day, we reflect on the unique influence fathers have on our lives. At Grant Thornton Sint Maarten, we asked our employees to look back on the most important lessons they learned from their fathers and how these lessons have impacted their professional lives. These personal stories demonstrate the power of fatherly wisdom and show how these insights can shape not only our personal but also our professional success.

In this blog, we proudly share the inspiring story of our Senior Associate Audit, Kess Lusia. He illustrates how his father's wise lessons have contributed to his success and growth in his professional life.

Kess Lusia – Senior Associate Audit
One wise lesson my father taught me, which I always try to carry with me in my personal/professional (work) life, is to always approach problems/situations creatively. “People who always do the same as others don't quickly stand out! Be creative! Think outside of the box.

An example of this is when I last had a job interview for my current position. Most people take a reactive stance in such interviews, waiting for the questions posed by the interviewer. I decided to do it differently. I chose to give a presentation about myself, my abilities, and why I would be a good fit for Grant Thornton. I treated the interview as a “sales pitch.” In this way, I proactively took control of the conversation and steered it to my liking. This allowed me to make a strong impression on my current boss and colleagues.

Kess's story underscores the lasting impact of the lessons he learned from his father. At Grant Thornton Sint Maarten, we value these invaluable insights and the way they enrich our work environment.

Happy Father’s Day to all the amazing dads!
